If you wish to visit Canada, travel to eye-catching tourist sites, or visit family members and friends, you need to get a visitor visa. A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), also, known as a “Visitor Visa,” allows foreign nationals to enter Canada as a visitor or a temporary resident. Whether you are an international student expecting to study in Canada, or a temporary worker looking to work, or a visitor wishing to explore Canada as a tourist, you are required to apply for a visitor visa for your temporary stay in Canada. Of course, in case you are from a visa-exempt country, you don’t need to apply for a TRV, instead, you should only get an eTA. Visitors to Canada may have different reasons such as sightseeing on holidays (vacation), visiting family, conducting business, etc. but they are all restricted in length of stay and subject to various conditions.
Different Types of Visitor Visas
There are 2 different types of visitor visas:
- Single entry visa: This kind of TRV allows you to travel to Canada once during the validity period specified on your visa.
-Multiple-entry visa: This sort of TRV can be issued for a maximum period of 10 years or 1 month before the expiry date on your passport, whichever is earlier. With a multiple-entry visa, you can enter Canada as many times as you wish during the validity period of your visa. The maximum period that a visitor is allowed to stay is 6 months from the date of arrival.
